I was asked why the flowers are so often used in Chinese Song !!?:O
Chinese writers and poets like to use all living and non living things as a metaphor , every plant and every flower has it's own characteristic just like human . for example , Moutan is usually a metaphor for richness , Chrysanthemum is symbol of nobility, plum blossom often means pride , lotus means live in mud and does not get dirty , and orchid live alone in the deep mountains and still has a wonderful odor . These characters of the flowers often used to compare with the characters of women in art and literature .
